 Tango in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is well known internationally for being the city where tango, one of the most fascinating of all dances was born, in brothels and in impoverished neighborhood. The social class in which it developed was a mixture of regional people and immigrants. Tango followers were mostly lonely men who had left their families at their natal European countries and frequented clubs or dance ballrooms for fun.

Tango was associated with the lower class of the city, and the upper class Argentines tried to restrict its influence. Tango’s melodramatic lyrics talk about the difficulties of life, blaming women for countless heartaches, and the dance moves were sexual and aggressive.  Carlos Gardel was the star that became the greatest champion of the Argentine Tango. His beautiful voice and looks made him Argentina's favorite tango singer.
